Bilingual Art

Here are some photos of our bilingual first-graders (1C) enjoying their art lessons with Prof. Dernovsek! In recent lessons the students have been working with pastels, whereby they cut out a piece of paper, apply pastels on the edges and then gently smudge the paper onto another piece of paper, creating a beautiful, subtle and blurry effect which works very well with landscapes. They have also been working on painting different weather environments, drawing a cyclist riding through a variety of weather conditions. What I love about Prof. Dernovsek’s lessons (and also with all the other brilliant art teachers at our school) is how the students are given very supportive advice on how to start (for example drawing a bike and a cyclist with a series of mathematical shapes), but are then really allowed to let their creativity run riot. This is an example of great differentiation, whereby all students are given the support to complete the task and enjoy creative work even if they do not consider themselves to be naturally gifted at art and some are able to develop their ideas even further with a high level of individuality and creative expression. I hope you enjoy the photos!
